Car rental terms made simple

There are many terms you come across when renting a car. Here we will go over some of these terms with explanation.

When it comes to renting a car for your trip there are many things to keep in mind. At Orbit Car Hire we have made the rental car booking process simple and easy. By offering selected rental car partners all over the world we are able to offer low prices and the best service. Renting a car from Orbit Car Hire is a simple solution for your trip.

We want our customers to be able to book their car rental in simple steps with great coverage that is best suited for each trip. We have put great work into making these goals with research and our experience in the car rental market. You can find out how to find the cheapest car hire deals.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Collision Damage Waiver is insurance that covers the vehicle in case of an accident in the same way as you cover your personal car. It comes with an excess meaning that it has a certain maximum amount to pay in case of an accident with the vehicle. The excess amount can differ between car rental companies as well as countries. You can find all information about the excess for our suppliers in the booking stage under "Rental Terms". There we have listed the amount for excess for each supplier.

Third-Party Liability Insurance

Every country has a third-party insurance amount set up with the relevant laws. Third-party insurance is necessary for someone to be permitted to drive and covers possible damage caused to other people and/or to other people's property. This insurance is usually limited to an amount that varies from country to country and by car rental companies. If the damage is greater than this amount the customer is liable to pay for any amount above the amount set up with the insurance. The amounts are listed on our website, it can be found under "Rental Terms" in the booking process for each car rental provider.

Theft Protection

Theft Protection is insurance that provides coverage if the vehicle would be stolen. Each car rental provider has their own excess for Theft Protection, so in case the vehicle is stolen you would only need to pay for the excess as stated in the terms and conditions of the car rental agreement.

Security Deposit

When you rent a car the car rental provider will take a security deposit while you have the vehicle on rent. Each car rental provider will have different security deposit amounts taken. You can easily find out the security deposit when booking your rental car with Orbit Car Hire. While you view offers you can press "Rental Terms" and there you will see how much security deposit is taken from each car rental provider.

Additional Extras

You can book your extras when selecting your car rental at Orbit Car Hire, everything from additional drivers to child seats. All extras that are chosen at Orbit Car Hire are paid on arrival when the vehicle is picked up. It is also possible to add additional extras upon arrival at the counter.

Fuel Policy

The most popular fuel policy is full to full. That means when you pick up your rental car you will receive it with a full tank and it will need to be returned with a full tank. You might also find the same to the same policy, which means that you will return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as you received it. You can filter the fuel policy while looking at car rental offers on Orbit Car Hire. This is also stated in your car rental agreement with the car rental provider.

Premium Coverage

Premium Coverage is an optional service by Orbit Car Hire which, if accepted, covers your financial accountability for damage or theft to the hired vehicle. This is not insured with a car hire company that reduces the excess amount, but a cover that refunds you in case the car hire company charges you for damage or theft. With this option, you will be reimbursed up to 3000 EUR. For more information, you can read the Terms and Conditions or contact us.

Mileage Policy

Most of our offers will have unlimited mileage, but sometimes you might see offers that have limited mileage. Limited mileage means that the vehicle can only be driven a certain amount of kilometres without an additional fee. Unlimited mileage means that there is no limit set to the number of miles you can use the vehicle for, so the rental charge will not change due to the number of miles that you drive. Unlimited mileage is usually included in our prices. Please check in step 2 of the booking process if unlimited mileage is included in your booking

Roadside Assistance

Roadside Assistance is a service offered by the car rental provider. This is a service that will help you in case of need while you are travelling in your rental car. We do recommend that you ask your car rental provider about their roadside assistance policy when you pick up your rental car. This will help you to understand the process in case of a breakdown or other unexpected matters that may happen while driving.
