Road trip from Auckland to Hamilton

Auckland - the starting point

Start your road trip in Auckland. Auckland is known for its iconic Sky Tower and volcanic Mt. Eden. Don't forget to check out Auckland Museum, Auckland Art Gallery and the Wallace Arts Center.

Coromandel Peninsula 

Now we're off to the Coromandel Peninsula. Coromandel feels like a whole new world. Captivating white sand beaches and atmospheric rainforests are sure to beguile you. Hot Water Beach is one of Coromandel's most dramatic locations and a place for alternative lifestyles. 


The Bay of Plenty

This is New Zealand's most popular summer holiday destination. The Bay of Plenty is indeed fertile. There are acres of kiwis, citrus fruits, avocados and vineyards here. It's a surfer's paradise, a perfect place to see or swim with dolphins, and home to New Zealand's only active marine volcano. Definitely a must-see.

Welcome to the world of fairy tales. The village of Hobbits is nothing short of amazing. You simply must experience the magic of Hobbiton and indulge in this movie set tour. In the rolling green hills, you can feast, see all Hobbit Holes or even get married.

Rotorua

The beautiful scenery of Rotorua will take your breath away. Literally. The air is full of steam coming from craters, here you can admire volcanic geysers, lakes and mud pools at every turn. Warm-up is one of the many mineral pools or dines in their spectacular Stratosfare Restaurant. The choice is yours.

Napier 

The charismatic city of Napier has so much to offer, it's hard to decide which attractions should be on your must-see list. The architecture is amazing, with low-rise and art deco style. Check out the Daily Telegraph building, National Aquarium of New Zealand and Napier Urban Farmers Market. It is also one of the best places to explore wineries. 


Wellington 

This is the coolest little capital city in the world and a mecca for hipsters. It's overflowing with museums, galleries and bars. If you're really into history, you must visit the Te Papa museum. If you want a taste of local cuisine, visit Ortega Fish Restaurant at Majoribanks Street. Their food is to die for. 

Waitomo

Your next stop on your road trip should be Waitomo. Beneath the hills of Waitomo lies a magical maze of caves and underground rivers. Visit Waitomo Gloworm Caves, to discover the magic of echoing waterfalls, soaring underground caverns and a starry ceiling of glowworms.

Hamilton

End your road trip adventure in Hamilton. Take a stroll through Hamilton's gardens, grab a cup of coffee at The River Kitchen or come face-to-face with exotic animals at Hamilton Zoo. Wine, dine or dance the night away. The choices are many.
